Spring just won’t
arrive. Today the 16th of May
was just freezing and the rain never stopped. I have been overnighting at campgrounds near cities and using public transport to visit them. It is not much fun camping when I can't open the roof or put out the canopy.
Still since I wasn’t far from Gent I went in to the lovely city and had a nice
stroll around. The famous Van Eyck
altarpiece is being restored so couldn’t see it but I did find the tiny
Dreupelkot pub on the river where they stock over 200 types of Jenever. Just had to try that. The glass is filled to the brim and tasted so
good had to try two of them – one of Almond and one of Cherries recommended by
the host.
The campground was huge and like the rest of the region has so much greenery, lakes, walking and biking paths that it must be wonderful in good sunny weather
BRUSSELS
On to Brussels and to Affligem to visit friends Peggy and Johan in their lovely old home in Affligem not far from the city. We went to Brussels by train on the first sunny day in weeks
With good friend Peggy at the Sunday Flea Market and below she is enjoying a beer with her husband Johan. They are friends that I met on the boat going to Luang Prabang around 2001
